Verizon chief says 4G could replace some land internet, TV

Verizon Chief Executive Ivan Seidenberg has said that he believes that the new Verizon 4G network could become a replacement for cable internet and TV services, according to a report. With speeds comparable to landline services, Seidenberg believes that “cable cutting” will become increasingly popular, especially in the medium to long term. The advantage of wireless, he argues, is that it can combine the currently separately delivered services internet and pay TV.
While Seidenberg does not expect that the adoption of 4G for this purpose will be significant at this early juncture, he does expect it to become more the norm in the future. According to Seidenberg, 4G networks such as Verizon’s are in unique position to be able to change the current model for entertainment delivery as cable providers have a vested interest in keeping the services separate.
